Our History

The Young Nano Network was initiated on October 8th 2010 during the Young Scientists' Workshop at VEGAS, University of Stuttgart, Germany.

The goal of the initiative was originally to get scientists together who are working with nano scale (mainly zero valent iron) colloids for in-situ remediation.

During the years it became clear that a broader group can be included. Thus in 2013 the focus was shifted from ground water remediation to nano particles in the environment. This way the young researchers get to learn and exchange knowledge with each other.
It is becoming more and more accepted that an environmental engineer studying the transport behavior of nZVI in a contaminated aquifer can also learn from a biologist who is looking into the transport of nano particles through cell membranes, and vise versa.
